ZuLeika Ceja, an alumnus of St. Philip’s 大学 (SPC), recently took the stage at the college's Women Breaking Through Conference, serving as a panelist in a discussion focused on the STEAM (Science, 技术, 工程, 艺术, and Mathematics) fields.

An aspiring vascular surgeon, ZuLeika shared her insights into navigating challenges and opportunities in STEAM. She shared her experiences as a first-generation college student.

ZuLeika attended SPC during the pandemic. While reflecting on her time at the college, she expressed fond memories, saying “My time at SPC was life-changing. Here, I realized my full potential. While doing virtual reality research for my class, I realized I was capable of more. My dream of being a Certified Nursing Assistant expanded to the idea that one day I could become a doctor.”

2025年5月, ZuLeika plans to apply to the MD Doctorate program through the Texas Medical Application, which will give her access to thirteen schools across the state. This rigorous and very competitive application is a pivotal opportunity to showcase her dedication and readiness to begin the next step in her medical education. The application process includes a 7-hour exam, recommendation letters, proof of volunteer hours, clinical experience, and a proven research history.

As ZuLeika continues her educational journey toward becoming a vascular surgeon, she remains committed to paying it forward and advocating for education. “I grew up on the east side of 圣安东尼奥, and there is a stigma. I’m passionate about helping my community. I want to become a doctor to help 关闭 an understanding gap in healthcare by representing my neighborhood and making them proud.”
